On 22nd September Jarkko Immonen (MA) explored the possibilities of cruel optimism as a conceptual tool for (eco)socially just career guidance praxis and research. Below is the webinar and slides in which he presented his research investigating cruel optimism in the context of tuition fee-liable (i.e. non-EU) university students in Finland, a group who inhabit a highly contradictory discursive space where they are simultaneously positioned as customers and humble ‘good immigrants’ while being structurally marginalised in the labour market.
