Call for evidence: Building and validating a competency framework for guidance in the digital society

As part of the Spanish national project, ‘ORIENTADIG (Rethinking the Role of Guidance Practitioners: Building and Validating a Competency Framework for Guidance in the Digital Society’ (PID2023-148173NA-I00), we are seeking to enhance the skills of guidance practitioners by achieving the following objectives:

  1. Developing a competency framework for guidance practitioners that is specific to the Spanish context (OrientaComp).
  1. Creating a digital competence framework for guidance practitioners (DigCompOrienta), differentiated by context (educational, professional, and socio-community).
  1. Designing and validating a self-reflection tool on digital competence for guidance practitioners (SELFIE4Counselors).
  1. Conducting a training needs analysis of the digital competence of guidance practitioners in Spain.

In the initial phase of the project, we are reviewing existing competency frameworks from around the world to learn about different approaches, identify good practices and understand various structural elements in order to achieve objective 1.

Your expertise would be invaluable in developing a robust framework for guidance practitioners in Spain.

We would be grateful if you could share with us any relevant frameworks or standards you are aware of, whether from your own country or elsewhere (including international ones), by replying to this email before the end of May. You can simply send an email to sromero@us.es with the details.

  1. Hi Tristram

It might be worth talking to Chris Webb from Huddersfield and Leigh Fowkes from Open University about their Foresee Framework. https://foreseeframework.uk/

I’d also throw into the mix my Types of Assistive Tool Use framework (TATU) which looks at the general cognitive competencies individuals need to use tools such as AI effectively. https://wintrythinking.wordpress.com/2025/02/15/types-of-assistive-tool-use/

    All the best

    David
