Career learning and sustainable development

The Canadian academic and career development specialist Candy Ho was interviewed for this blog over a year ago, which is how I found out about her work using the UN Sustainable Development goals (SDGs) in her teaching for career learning.

I was really pleased to meet and make a proper conenction with Candy last year in Vancouver (I was visiting my son who was a student in Canada). One of the wonderful aspects of working in Careers is how friendly and hospitable fellow professionals are even across the globe.

I have tried to integrate some of her ideas in my teaching of employability and career development. I’ve found the SDGs a useful way to introduce discussions of structural and contextual issues that affect careers. We ask our students what kind of world they want to live in and how their future work aligns with this.

Opportunity to hear Candy speak about her work – all invited

She has agreed to speak at a virtual event run by the Society for Research in Higher Education (SRHE). I am a convenor for SRHE’s Employability, Enterprise and Work-based learning Network. All online network events are still free to attend for members and non-members. The event is on Wednesday March 29th between 4-5pm (UK time). Candy will be getting up early in the morning Vancouver time to do this for us.

It will be great to welcome readers of this blog to the event!
