In this presentation, which was originally created as part of the he Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences’ e-school on social justice, Erik Hagaseth Haug explores the issue of user involvement in career guidance services.
Erik argues that a different kind of user involvement can be both a way to ensure the actual representation of citizens in societal development and a driver for quality improvement of guidance services. In the lecture he looks at a range of different ways in which users can be involved using examples from the Nordic countries.
Through the theoretical work of Nancy Fraser, he reflect on issues such as:
- Do the boundaries of the political community wrongly exclude some who are entitled to representation?
- Do the community’s decision making rules accord equal voice and fair representation in public decision-making?

Good, clear, timely, and well presented, as always, Erik! And so encouraging to see our study on the Voice of Users in the Nordic Countries (NVL, 2011) being used for this purpose. I wonder, has the issue of user involvement been promomoted and developed systematically during the last decade – or not really?
