Over the next couple of weeks the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) is taking place in Glasgow. There is going to be a lot of information coming out of the event, much of which will be spin, with various sides and factions claiming success or defeat.
For all the problems with this kind of massive summit, the COP26 does seem to have marked a new phase where political leaders are accepting that climate change is real and that they seriously have to get on with trying to deal with it. But, of course, this doesn’t mean that the rhetoric will be matched with real action.
We have previously featured some articles on green guidance and other analysis of environmental issues in careers work. COP26 seems likely to drive greater engagement in these issues. It is clear that if countries are going to go through the kind of social and economic transformation required to reach net zero (or carbon neutrality) over the next ten to twenty years there are going to be massive impacts on work, employment, education and career. Career guidance is likely to have an important role in helping people to manage these changes.
So, we would love to recieve any contributions from people looking at COP26, its implications for career or for guidance, green guidance and the inter-relationship between the environment and careers. Contributions can be research based or opinion pieces. We would also love to hear about examples of practice where people have been talking about the environment with students and clients.
