In this post Ingrid Bårdsdatter Bakke (Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences explores the way in which social justice can inform career guidance within the context of the Nordic countries.

In these lectures, which were originally produced for the Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences’ e-school on social justice, I talk about how Nordic culture frames thinking about career.
Careers are situated and connected to place and time, and it is important to understand the cultures and contexts within which people live their lives when talking about their career. From a Nordic perspective, the career concept can be seen as unfamiliar, and in these lectures I discuss how cultural views about the importance of work as a way to participate in society can be connected to the career concept.
