
We have talked a lot on this site about the value of community based approaches to career guidance. We often challenge the idea that career guidance should just be about helping people to ‘escape’ deprived communities and argue that it is important to see the individual in the context of their community.
But, what does this kind of practice actually look like?
Thankfully, this Ted Talk by Dale Williams, the mayor of a small town in New Zealand, gives us an idea of one way to organise community centred guidance. Dale, tells the story of how he led a community transformation and tied it into the career aspirations of the young people in his community.
